United States Fifteenth Amendment

"(June 22, 1811 -- November 21, 1877) John Van Schaick Lansing Pruyn was a(n) lawyer, public servant, regent of a university, chancellor, and American politician. Pruyn was born in Albany, New York. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1832. John was a regent of the University of the State of New York, member of the state senate (1861), and Chancellor of the University of the State of New York (1868 - his death November 21, 1877). Pruyn was elected as a Democrat to the 38th Congress to fill the vacancy caused by Erastus Corning's resignation (December 7, 1863 - March 3, 1865) and to the 40th Congress (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1869). He was not successful for election in 1854, 1864, and 1868.
