The Road to Civil War

(5 December, 1809 -- 29 November, 1892) Fitch was an American doctor, politician, and soldier. Born in LeRoy, New York, Fitch studied medicine and began practice in Indiana. Fitch was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-First and Thirty-Second Congresses, serving from March 4, 1849 to March 3, 1853. Fitch resumed the practice of medicine until he was elected to the United States Senate to fill a vacancy from March 4, 1855 to March 3, 1861.
