Edwin H. Webster

The Road to Civil War

(31 March, 1829 -- 24 April, 1893) Webster was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician. Born in Harford County, Md., Webster studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1851. Webster was a member of the State senate from 1855 to 1859 and during the Civil War was a colonel of the Seventh Regiment. Webster was elected as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-sixth Congress, as a Unionist to the Thirty-seventh Congress and as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses and served from March 4th, 1859 to 1865 when he resigned.
