Pinckney's Plan in the Committee of Detail

Commentary

In his essay 'The Committee of Detail', William Ewald suggests that there is great uncertainty as to when this rough outline of the Pinckney Plan was produced, and by whom: while Farrand includes the document, found among the Wilson papers, in his Committee of Detail records, Ewald wonders if the copy was not produced some months earlier, at the time when Pinckney's plan was originally introduced into the Convention. There is, in any case, little certainty surrounding the origin or purpose of this document.
