This document provides an account of a meeting between Bríd Rodgers and D Hayes that took place on 9 October 1996. The objective of the meeting was primarily to discuss some upcoming vacancies in public bodies, but the conversation turned to that week's developments in Northern Ireland. Brid Rodgers expressed dissatisfaction with the communication and lack of direction within the SDLP. They also discussed the political fall-out of the Lisburn bombing, and Rodgers spoke about the misgivings she and her colleagues had about the good-faith of Sinn Féin from the beginning. She also noted that the US had begun to exercise more pressure on Sinn Féin, as was evident in US Ambassador Kennedy-Smith's recent speech, and from a meeting between her and Alex Attwood where she had questioned Attwood about Gerry Adams's integrity, sincerity, etc.
