In a statement, The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) has expressed approval of the joint Government papers on Strands Two and Three, published on the same day. The SDLP emphasizes that the propositions paper presented on 27 January 1998 is consistent with the Frameworks document, which has been endorsed by the Governments. The party refutes claims that Strand Two arrangements would be subordinate to those in Strand Three, asserting that the paper provides a solid foundation for negotiating the powers, functions, and composition of North-South institutions. The SDLP aims to build on the frameworks model to establish North-South institutions with clear identity and purpose, fostering cooperative and constructive relationships, promoting agreement among the people of Ireland, and addressing the rights, identities, and as PIRAtions of the two major traditions.
