This document is a summary of a meeting of the Liaison Subcommittee on decommissioning held on October 8, 1997. The Subcommittee discussed the importance of decommissioning as part of the peace process, legislative frameworks in place, and the need for trust and confidence-building measures. Various political parties and governments expressed their commitment to decommissioning, with Sinn Fein emphasizing total disarmement and demilitarisation (including from the British side), the UUP and UDP focussing on decommissioning of illegal weapons and organizations, and the SDLP highlighting the significance of progress in decommissioning.
