Tuesday, 07 October 1997

i25915

This document contains the text of the opening remarks made by Gerry Adams on the launch of Strand 2. Adams stated that Sinn Féin's purpose in these talks was to promote the end of British rule in Ireland, and that they believed that the end to conflict in Northern Ireland would only be found in an all-Ireland context. Adams also spoke about the need for equality of treatment for Irish language and culture, decommissioning, and confidence-building. Parts of the text are annotated with pen.
