Minute from Danny McNeill to Anthony Pawson Regarding a Potential Meeting between Cahal Daly, Robin Eames, John Major and Peter Brooke Dated 4 February 1991

Monday, 04 February 1991

i24581

In this memo, Danny McNeill discussed a request from Archbishop Cahal Daly and Archbishop Robin Eames for meeting with Peter Brooke and John Major, along with Bishop Samuel Poyntz and Fathers John Murphy and Will Murphy. The purpose of this meeting was to allow the Archbishops to talk directly with Major about the dialogue between the Maze chaplains and members of the PIRA Army Council. McNeill recommended that any meeting should only involve the Archbishops and Bishop Poyntz. He also suggested arranging the initial meeting between the Archbishops and Brooke, with a later discussion about a meeting with Major. The document encloses a draft message to Eames and Daly from Brooke. A different version of this note exists elsewhere in the box.
