This letter was sent to John Major from John Hume on 29 November 1993. It counsels against the loss of an opportunity for peace that would be occasioned by British government rejection of the Joint Declaration. It presses for the adoption of the statement handed over by Albert Reynolds in June 1993 (JD6), glosses that document, and stresses Hume's judgement that it would be sufficient to prompt a PIRA ceasefire.
