This document provides summaries of conversations between John Holmes, Private Secretary to British Prime Minister John Major, and Paddy Teahon, Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach, that took place at various times on 15 July 1996. Teahon expressed that the Irish Government was eager to see new mechanisms to deal with marches that involved the Irish Government more directly. He also mentioned plans for an official meeting between Sinn Féin and the Irish Government, and outlined their intention to use the events from the previous week to put pressure on the parties to speed up the progress in the talks.
