This document records a note from John Holmes, private secretary to British Prime Minister John Major, to Major from 17 July 1996. In the note, Holmes recommended that Major should look at the points on the [Royal Ulster Constabulary] Chief Constable's position in advance of Major's meeting with John Alderdice, leader of the Alliance Party, on 18 July 1996.
