A record of a meeting between Patrick Mayhew, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and David Trimble, UUP [Ulster Unionist Party] leader, on 26 July 1996, written by Martin Howard, Private Secretary to the Northern Ireland Office. The meeting concerned decommissioning, and when it should be discussed, in relation to the multi-party negotiations. Howard noted at the end Trimble's increased amenability to discussing decommissioning after the summer recess, and an intent to settle on this with the Irish Government.
