John Major, the British Prime Minister, wrote a letter to Cardinal Cahal Daly regarding the violence surrounding the Drumcree crisis. Written on the 18 July 1996, Major expressed regret that they could not arrive at a local accommodation, and stated his resolve to move the negotiations along in order to make real progress in the Belfast talks.
