This document provides an account of a meeting between Michael Ancram and Alliance members, including John Alderdice, Seamus Close and Steve McBride, on 8 July 1996. They discussed the Chief Constable's decision regarding Drumcree, and Alderdice expressed concerns that any decision by the RUC would result either in a loss of trust of the nationalist community in the RUC, or a serious negative impact on the position of David Trimble and, consequently, on the talks process. Alderdice and Ancram disagreed on how to approach the crisis, with Alderdice insisting that the talks should be adjourned for a period to put pressure on the UUP.
