Record of informal discussion on procedural guidelines and agenda for plenary session on 24 July 1996 at 18.40

Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This document provides an account of the informal discussion on procedural guidelines and agenda for the plenary session which took place on 24 July 1996 at 18.40. Chairman George Mitchell began the meeting by asking the delegates for their reactions to The Compromise Text, which was the latest document that had been drafted after a series of meetings between parties with the aim of narrowing the areas of disagreement about the procedural rules. While the majority of parties accepted the proposed draft, the DUP and UKUP indicated that they had amendments they wished the delegates to consider during the plenary session. The meeting adjourned to allow Patrick Roche to consider whether the UKUP accepted paragraphs 30-36 of the proposed document regarding the decision-making process, and if so, whether the UKUP's amendments could be reviewed by the delegates accordingly.
