Record of an opening plenary meeting on 25 November 1996 at 12.10 (OIC/PS50)

Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This is the draft summary record of an opening plenary session on Monday 25 November 1996 at 12.10. The Chairman suggested the meeting be adjourned to allow bilaterals to continue. The UKUP opposed this saying that it had not been included in the bilateral discussions. and wanted a vote on the common set of core principles reached, independently, by the unionist parties. They also objected to contacts between the British Government and Sinn Féin. The DUP suggested that 'Hume/Adams mark 2' had appeared and read an extract from a newspaper article. The UKUP asked that its motion be considered. The meeting was adjourned in line with the Chairman's initial proposal.
