Paper by Labour on agenda items 5 and 6 of strand 1 and item 5 of strand 2 talks, 10 November 1997

Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This document, presented by Sinn Féin, describes their position on justice issues, rights and safeguards in relation to Strands 1 and 2. Sinn Féin critisized the British Government's past human rights violations, and outlined its vision for what parity of esteem, equality of treatment and meaningful protection of rights entailed. They outlined an extensive set of political, social, economic and cultural rights under the categories of group and individual rights and also proposed measures to protect and enhance these rights through the creation of a new covenant on human rights, the creation of an investigative and monitoring body, and the passing of far-reaching judicial and police reforms. The document contains small annotations in pen.
