Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This document is the transcript of a doorstep interview given by Michael Ancram on 27 January 1997, just before the plenary session. Ancram addressed the recent paramilitary activity of the PIRA and, when prompted, also commented on the actions of militant loyalist organizations. Regarding the impact of these attacks on the involvement of the PUP and UDA in the talks process, Ancram stressed the significance of the Mitchell Principles. He assured that the Government would assess whether the parties had adhered to these principles or not.
