Letter from John Alderdice to George Mitchell alleging that UUP, DUP, PUP and UDP had breached the Mitchell Principles, 10 September 1996

Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This letter, addressed to George Mitchell by John Alderdice, refers to formal representations made by Alliance against leaders of the DUP and UUP alleging that their behaviour during the events surrounding Drumcree breached the Mitchell Principles. Alliance also identified further breaches in the Mitchell Principles by DUP, PUP and UDP, and the letter notes that Alderdice enclosed a written note on the various breaches within it. While the enclosed note is not attached to this document, it can be found elsewhere in the box. Alderdice also stressed the importance of continuing the talks while the Irish and British Governments investigated the allegations.
