Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This document, presented by the SDLP, describes their position on rights and safeguards in relation to Strand 2. The SDLP endorsed the Framework documents' proposal for a covenant which would enshrine and support rights and safeguards. They also stated that new mechanisms should be put in place to ensure the implementation and enforcement of rights across the island of Ireland. The also proposed that the covenant should contain a solemn commitment to the consent principle and to democratic and exclusively peaceful means of resolving political issues.
