Paper by the Irish Government on agenda item 4 of strand 2 talks, 31 October 1997

Writing Peace: George J. Mitchell Collection

This document, presented by the Irish Government, describes its position on the creation of new relationships between the arrangements arising from all three strands. The Irish Government highlighted what they identified as the main elements of the inter-strand arrangements, which included a legislative base for the proposed North/South body in the British and Irish parliaments, the option of expanding the list of functions assigned to it, and regular scrutiny of its operation in agreed political institutions in Northern Ireland and the Irish parliament.
