This document contains the Anglo-Irish Agreement signed by Margaret Thatcher and Garret FitzGerald on 15 November 1985. The agreement outlined that any change in the status of Northern Ireland would require the consent of the majority of its people. It established an Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) under the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Council, granting Ireland a more significant consultative role in Northern Ireland affairs. The IGC's mandate included addressing political, security, and legal issues, as well as fostering cross-border cooperation. Its objective was to respect the rights and identities of both communities and to promote peace, stability, and prosperity throughout Ireland. The document also includes the joint communique that was issued on the occasion of the Anglo-Irish summit where the Anglo-Irish Agreement was signed.
