An SDLP press release including the text of a Hume/Adams statement. The statement reported on a meeting held between John Hume and Gerry Adams on the previous evening (17 July 1997). They emphasised the importance of an inclusive and meaningul talks process and the the need for any settlement to have the allegiance of both traditions. They also stressed the role of the previous British Government in obstructing such a process and called on the current one to respond 'imaginative;y and positively' to questions of demilitarisation, equality and prisoners.
