The Ulster Democratic Party (UDP), in their document dated 16 September 1996, addresses the allegations made by the Alliance Party regarding breaches of the Mitchell Principles. The UDP references the 'Conclusions of the Governments on Representations made by the DUP against the PUP and the UDP' to assert that the charges against loyalist parties are unfounded and have been previously resolved. They criticize the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) for misinterpreting the findings, clarifying that Sinn Féin's entry into negotiations is strictly governed by the Northern Ireland (Entry to Negotiations, etc.) Act 1996, which mandates the unequivocal restoration of the 1994 ceasefire. The UDP refutes DUP claims that the exoneration of the UDP and PUP facilitates Sinn Féin's entry into negotiations without PIRA concessions, labeling such statements as baseless.
