In a speech delivered at the Royal Ulster Agricultural Show on 16 May 1997, the Prime Minister [Tony Blair] emphasized his commitment to achieving a fair political settlement in Northern Ireland, acknowledging the efforts of his predecessor, John Major, in striving for peace. He highlighted the importance of consent and the principle that Northern Ireland will remain part of the United Kingdom as long as the majority wishes.
