Writing Peace: David Trimble Collection

This UUP response to the Framework document strongly criticizes the 'Frameworks for the Future' document, arguing that it is a deceptive strategy designed to undermine Northern Ireland's union with the United Kingdom and erode British identity. The UUP contends that the document's proposals for internal government and North/South relationships are so interdependent that any amendment would invalidate the entire framework. They express concerns that the proposed Northern Ireland Assembly would be ineffective due to its complex mechanisms and that the North/South body would evolve into an all-Ireland government, ultimately leading to joint authority and a united Ireland. The UUP advocates for a gradual return to normal government with real democratic local control, emphasizing the need for consent from all constitutional parties and opposing any external interference.
