Letter from Mo Mowlam to David Trimble on the reinstatement of the Forum in parallel with the reconvention of the multi-party Talks

Writing Peace: David Trimble Collection

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Mo Mowlam, in a letter dated 15 May 1997, informed David Trimble MP of the Ulster Unionist Party that a draft Order had been arranged to be laid before Parliament. This Order would reinstate the Forum from 3 June coinciding with the reopening of the multi-party Talks. The letter highlights that the Forum had previously been suspended due to the suspension of the Talks, and the current action fulfills a commitment made by the Labour Government to extend the Forum's life for a second year. The Secretary of State expressed hope that the Forum would contribute meaningfully to promoting dialogue and understanding within Northern Ireland.
