This document contains the text of the opening statement made by the Alliance delegation on the launch of Strand Two. The statement begins with a summary of four fundamental principles espoused by Alliance in relation to Strand One. The speaker provided an overview of the history between the North and South of Ireland, and its impact on the social geography of the island. They underlined the importance of doing away with articles 2 and 3 of the Irish Constitution to facilitate friendly relations. They also took note of the scope for cooperation in the social, cultural and economic realms, and called for institutional recognition of the North-South relationship.
